Some people look at the journey of life as a struggle. Sometimes it’s a chore. But the journey of life is an opportunity to personally develop. The journey of life is an opportunity to learn new things, to adapt, evolve and grow. The journey of sales is the same. Sales and sales. Introduction, presentation, closing sequence, the sales process forget about it. Look at it as an opportunity to grow. Look at it as an opportunity to learn new things to put in your life. Because if you communicate better with your clients guess where that’s going to go directly into. Back pocket? What about in your family life? You communicate more effectively in a sale that has an effect in your family life. So sales is an opportunity to grow.

We’re talking about life expectancy; the way that you relate to yourself that self dialogue affects your life expectancy. It affects performance, you know that. The conversation that you have with yourself.

Talking yourself out of eating the right food, talking to yourself you know you’ve got very strong regularization of yourself dialogue haven’t you? You catch that monkey talking to you saying “ Oh I have that trouble…oh I don’t feel like working out today.” So the stakes don’t get any higher because we’re talking about a 50% divorce rate. We’re talking about not being able to communicate effectively with our children and our grandchildren. Often there is a huge gap in age between a grandfather and a grandchild, we’re talking about that. We’re talking about building warmer and richer relationships with friends. So the stakes don’t get much higher to learn more effective ways of communicating with yourself and communicating with others.

Not much. “Sow your cleverness with bewilderment”. The adventure of life is learning. Okay so the stakes don’t get any higher when it comes to the way that we relate to ourselves so that’s just dialogue that we have with ourselves. That’s huge, that relates to your happiness really. That really relates to your happiness. So what do I mean by self dialogue? Now I’m going to leave a five second gap. And in that five second gap, I want you to listen to the conversation you are having with yourself okay? So have a close listen to that conversation you’re having with yourself. Five second gap, ready, set, go.

(pause)

Hands up those people that said it’s been more than five seconds. That’s your monkey, that’s yourself talk. And you would have said “Ah, now he’s doing that on purpose cause he’s going to make a point of it.” Who thought of that? Can anybody think why? All that self dialogue, all that right on. It would have been a good couple of paragraphs there. If we wanted it would have been a page screaming on. That’s yourself dialogue. You don’t get stressed, you stress yourself. You don’t get stressed, no such thing as “I’m stressed! That made me stressed! When this happened and this happened, that made me stressed.” No, no, no. That didn’t make you stressed, you stressed yourself through your own self dialogue. Stress kills you, yes it does.

And myths and stereotypes I think that comes at the end not, not at the same…myths and stereotypes.
So it’s body loss, rapport with nurses, change and learning new skills, pushing barriers and then myths and stereotypes because when you’re pushing new barriers and you’re just starting to get out as a blind person..

You’re starting to…

And you’re just starting to get out as a blind person then you’re just starting to recognize the–I mean even when we were in the –even when we were in the hardware store today it was quite amazing that the guy, his volume and voice went up about tenfold. He was talking like this (elevated volume in voice).
“Yes, hello! How are you?” because you were blind. He was for some reason he perceived you couldn’t bloody hear or something. And that’s to do with myths and stereotypes which is a great thing to bring into myths and stereotypes as you do. If people’s volume increases you know so I think out of body loss, rapport with nurses, change, learning new skills, pushing barriers and myths and stereotypes. What is the core thing there? Is it change and adaptation? Is it evolving? What is it?

Anthony:
Build up to the car accident?

David:
The build up to the car accident and the car accident. So that’s the introduction okay? Then we go into three core points. Within those three core points are three stories, three or four stories . So what we want now is the first of three or four stories so let’s have a look. So the accident and how it happened that’s introduction as well. Accident, how it happened. Okay, then we’ve got body loss. Body loss, rapport with nurses..body loss, recovery, myths and stereotypes. So body loss, we’ve got rapport…sorry we’ve got body loss, we’ve got myths and stereotypes, change, learning new skills, pushing barriers, and we’ve got the nurse rapport…with nurse. Okay so how does body loss …rapport with nurse is just a ..what’s that? What’s that about? What’s the key point there?

Recently I went out and did some work I created outdoors and I’ve got better work I’ve created outdoors which is really great, we’ve got some schools new results. When I came out and saw you last week, what area of personal development did you get if you hone in on the sales process. Is there an area I spoke about that you feel you could do about that you applied a lot?

Sp2: I felt more like I felt more of a match because today I felt like oh, today that might help me hang onto a man for a change. Not very nice.

So listening skills might help you hold onto a man.

Sp2: Yeah, for a few more years than what I usually get out of them.

Now there’s some self dialogue there.

Sp2: I have a beautiful man at the moment everybody.

Sp3: Now how long have you got there?

Sp2: I’ll hang on a bit longer than six months.

If you improve your ability to conflict resolution, if you improve your ability to communicate with clients, close clients be assertive, if you improve your ability to have mental preparation before you meet a client do you have think it would have an effect on your private life?

David:
So perception and that can relate maybe to the second key point that you make. You know, halfway through your talk, you could be talking about perception then you could relate it back to when you were a garbage collector. You know, I was a garbage collector and I figured out that working on a truck as a driver you have a cushier job, you get paid twice as much. So within your organization what positions are available for you. So that’s very true you can segue there. But initially we want an introduction and I think that introduction, I think..

Anthony:The car accident. Why not start with ..

David:
Yeah I think the car accident as an introduction, as a intro, and then what we do is so the car accident is …

Anthony:
Just to know that we have a couple of stories already…

David:That’s good.

Anthony:That would relate back .

David:Okay what are they?

Anthony:
In the… you know how much a garbage collector. He believed it was a dead end job there was no future in it. But I don’t believe there is a dead end job. There is a only dead end job if perceive it to be a dead end job. Cause immediately after working, you know running out on the streets and emptying the bins that I realized the truck driver was getting paid more to do less work. So I immediately got my truck license, so I improved my skills even in a dead end job.

Everybody goes through hardships, everybody goes through trauma. It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you make it mean that counts.

So I certainly agree with that. So if we’re looking at first topic if you like or the first three or the first four stories that we can put together …

Anthony:
All to do with loss?

David:
Okay yeah I think so although the intro to it can be who you were, and no opportunities, minimal education and a lot of peer group. So this is your introduction. This is the story about who you are. And that’s about your introduction just about building you up. And I think…

Anthony:
Oh, yes, yes. Especially relating to when I lost my sight I put it back in the audience you know How does this story relate to you? What great loss have you experienced you know. Been expecting the unexpected but then a part of them having to leave you.

David:And what do you do what that happens? How do you handle it?

Anthony:
Well the first step first of all, you’ve got to acknowledge that it’s affected you ..

David:
Okay acknowledge. Acknowledge that it’s affected you. We need five minutes on that. You know step number one is acknowledgement. Acknowledge that you’re actually emotional. Acknowledge that it actually had an effect on you. And you know you have to spend five minutes on that now then you have to go to the next point bang! You need to do this boom! You know and then spend some time on that. You know it’s not what happens you, it’s what you make it mean that counts.
